One eligible Rails 8.0 app · £695

Move an eligible Rails 8.0 app to Rails 8.1.

The Rails maintenance schedule lists security support for 8.0.x through 7 November 2026. That date does not switch off a running app. We upgrade one app and check it in a safe test environment before your team chooses when to deploy.

Send Rails/Ruby versions, test baseline and who runs staging. No code, credentials, real data or repo invites yet.

Scope and limits

One version forward, with the app checked.

For an 8.0.x app that builds and starts now, with a lockfile, compatible Ruby and critical gems, a usable test baseline and an authorised developer who can run representative staging checks. We inspect tests, assets, eager load and integrations before confirming a fixed scope. Source moves only through an agreed company-controlled handoff, never with live credentials or customer data.

Included: Rails and routine gem/lockfile updates, bounded configuration changes, existing runnable tests, production eager-load check, assets/build where present, representative app flows with synthetic data, independent diff review and upgrade notes. Not included: a separate Ruby jump, major framework rewrite, changes to real records, feature work, audit certification, production deployment or a guarantee that all untested flows work.

The work

Tests plus app-flow checks.

  1. Agree the baseline.

Tell us your versions, test commands and who controls staging. We agree checks and safe code handoff; an app without a usable baseline may need a different quote.

  2. Upgrade and review.

AI agents upgrade one step in an isolated runner workspace, recording changes and running available tests, eager-load and build checks. A second agent reviews the diff and remaining risks.

  3. Verify in staging.

Your developer runs the change in a safe test environment with synthetic data and checks agreed flows. We fix upgrade-caused issues within scope and hand over patch and deployment/reversal notes. Your team controls the production deploy.

Before you decide

The support date is not a shutdown date.

Rails 8.0 apps do not stop running on 7 November. Under the published schedule, new security releases for that series end then. A passing suite may still miss a broken page; that is why we agree staging flows, report what remains untested and leave the merge and production deploy to your team.

Start with versions, not access.
