Job shopify-uninstalled-review-app-residue · revised 9 October 2026
Remove leftover Shopify review-app code from one product template
On a duplicate theme the current review widget displays one copy of the expected review content, and retired app code no longer runs on the agreed product.
You might be seeing
- A retired review widget still appears next to the current one
- Product reviews disappear or duplicate after changing apps
No passwords, keys, card details or admin invites needed to start.
What usually happened
A removed Shopify app left theme snippets, app blocks or script references that conflict with the current review display; bulk deletion risks removing the active review app or its data.
Who it’s for: Shopify owner who removed a review app but still sees its widget or broken review section.
Usually starts when: After uninstalling a review app, old snippets conflict with the current app or leave missing reviews.
The result: On a duplicate theme the current review widget displays one copy of the expected review content, and retired app code no longer runs on the agreed product.

Checks you can run yourself
Inspect app blocks first
Open Customize on a theme duplicate and list active app blocks for one affected product.
Look for: Record the active app before deciding which snippet is residue.
What you get
- List of deleted/kept files with duplicate-theme diff
- Product-page screenshots and safe theme rollback instructions
Included
- Trace one retired review app and one replacement app in a duplicated theme
- Remove only confirmed retired theme assets/references and restore the agreed review block
Not included
- Migrating historic reviews between platforms
- Buying or configuring a new review subscription
- Removing every uninstalled app in the store
- Guaranteeing an external review platform restores lost content
How we know it’s done
Agreed with you before work starts. Each check produces evidence you keep.
On one agreed product page the active app shows reviews once, with the same count as its owner dashboard
Evidence: Preview screenshot and redacted app count
The retired app script/reference is absent in theme output without breaking product page or cart
Evidence: Diff and preview network/console check
Sign-off. You inspect the named test result and sign off before payment. Your authorised account holder performs and verifies any live change.
If it fails. If the agreed test fails, you do not pay for this fixed scope. We hand over the findings and agree whether to stop or re-quote; no surprise work.
When it fits, and when we stop
It fits when
- The owner names the retired and current review apps
- The review source data still exists in the current app or approved export
We stop and tell you if
- Review records were deleted from the vendor with no export
- Unclear which code belongs to the live review app; stop for vendor confirmation
What could go wrong
Keep the previous code or configuration on a named test copy. The handover lists every change and its reverse; live database changes or external effects require a separate owner-approved plan.
Scroll the table sideways to read it all.
| Risk | How we handle it |
|---|---|
| A shared snippet is deleted and active reviews vanish | Inventory script ownership and revert the duplicate before publication. |
| Retired app stored the only review data | Check an export or active-app dashboard before promising a display fix. |
An independent reviewer checks the specific data, payment and permission risks, the redacted test result and whether the owner can safely reverse the change.
How we deliver
We arrange the work and independent review, then show you the result against the agreed checks. You keep authority over your systems.
- Compare active app blocks and retired snippets on a duplicated theme
- Remove only proven retired references; keep vendor review records unchanged
- Check current review count, image placement and no stale network calls; independent review
- Hand over the reviewed change, evidence and reversal steps; the owner controls the live switch.
This is a one-off job, not emergency cover or a subscription. We confirm eligibility, the total price, a start window and a delivery date before you accept. Work starts only after agreed inputs, secure access, any licences and necessary permissions are in place. Hosting, platform and supplier charges are excluded unless the written quote includes them. No charge or booking is created by an enquiry.
Need to keep it working?
If you change store apps regularly, discuss a scoped theme/app compatibility check before each switch.
Ongoing work is separately scoped and quoted: no monitoring, response-time guarantee or automatic subscription is included in this job.
Explore an ongoing engineering lane, or mention the responsibility you need in your enquiry.
What you can check
This is a new service. We have not delivered this job for a client yet.
Other ways to get this done
- Ask the original platform or app vendor whether its support can fix this under your existing plan.
- If someone already maintains this system for you, ask them to test this exact failure on a copy first.
Questions
Will removing code restore reviews deleted from the old app?
No. This job assumes review data is already present in the current app.
Can I uninstall the old app first?
If you already did, keep a theme backup and the app name; do not delete every similarly named file.
Start with an email
Send us
- Product URL and screenshot of duplicate or missing reviews
- Names of removed and active review apps
Later, once you agree
- Duplicate theme preview and owner-approved app access in test context
- Non-sensitive export proving current reviews exist
- A company-controlled secure handoff agreed before access: no live passwords, keys, private code or customer records by ordinary email.
You keep the live service, account, production keys and customer records. Agents work only on an authorised copy with synthetic data and a company-controlled handoff; a person owns Synthetic Industry and remains accountable. Your authorised account holder approves and carries out the live change.
