Job store-product-image-alt-text-with-review-sample · revised 12 October 2026
Add alt text to your product images, checked on a sample you choose
Alt text for up to 200 product images, scored by your reviewer on a 50-image sample you choose, with no prices or claims in the text and text printed in images transcribed or flagged.
You might be seeing
- Image alt fields are empty across the catalogue
- An accessibility report lists missing alt text
No passwords, keys, card details or admin invites needed to start.
What usually happened
Alt text describes an image for someone who cannot see it. A tool can write it quickly, but it can also describe garments wrongly, miss text printed on a product, or add prices and promises that do not belong in alt text. Without a sample check nobody knows which.
Who it’s for: Owner or catalogue manager of a store with hundreds of product images and no alt text.
Usually starts when: Alt text is missing across the catalogue, and writing it by hand takes too long.
The result: Alt text is written for up to 200 product images and delivered as an import file. Your reviewer scores a 50-image sample that they choose. No alt text holds a price or a promotional claim, and text printed in an image is transcribed or flagged.

How we know it’s done
Agreed with you before work starts. Each check produces evidence you keep.
Your reviewer scores a 50-image sample they choose; at least 45 of 50 alt texts are judged correct (a true rate of at least 80% with 95% confidence, if the 50 were drawn at random; your picks make it a guide). Correct means the text describes what is visible, with no wrong colour or product type, no price and no claim.
Evidence: The sample, with each image and your score.
No alt text contains a price, discount or promotional claim from the word list agreed in the quote and handed over to you; one fails the whole test.
Evidence: A script check over all alt texts.
Text printed in an image is transcribed or flagged.
Evidence: The list of images with printed text.
A dry-run import changes only the alt text column.
Evidence: The import diff.
Sign-off. You re-run the acceptance checks with the steps we hand over, read the results and sign off in writing. Payment follows sign-off.
If it fails. If an agreed check fails, you do not pay for this fixed scope. We hand over what we found and agree whether to stop or re-quote; no surprise work.
When it fits, and when we stop
It fits when
- Image addresses are public, or you send the images through a secure route
- A named reviewer picks and scores 50 images
- You can export product images and their addresses as CSV
- You own a test store or copy for the dry run
We stop and tell you if
- The images show people, or sensitive or adult content
- You want prices, offers or keywords in the alt text
- Many images are mostly printed text that cannot be transcribed reliably
- The reviewer cannot score a sample
What could go wrong
We change a test store or test account only. Nothing is switched on in your live store or helpdesk by us. Your named person applies the result and can switch it off again with the steps we hand over.
Scroll the table sideways to read it all.
| Risk | How we handle it |
|---|---|
| Garments, patterns or printed text are described wrongly. | Printed text is transcribed or flagged, and your reviewer scores a sample you choose. |
| Alt text carries prices or promotional claims. | A script checks every alt text for prices and promotional words, and a hit fails the test. |
| Accessibility rules may apply to your store. | We do not advise on them. The sheet is a draft for your adviser and your reviewer. |
A separate automated reviewer checks the work and the test results before hand-over. Your reviewer scores the sample and your named person imports the file. No human supervisor from us is included unless your agreement names one, and at launch the work is largely automated.
How we deliver
We arrange the work and independent review, then show you the result against the agreed checks. You keep authority over your systems.
- Agree the images, the style rules and the sample size
- Receive the image list and set up the dry-run copy
- Write a short factual alt text per image, flagging printed text
- Check each text for prices, claims and wrong colours or types
- Your reviewer scores 50 images they choose; a separate automated reviewer checks the rest
- Hand over the sheet, import file and sample scores
This is a one-off job, not emergency cover or a subscription. We confirm eligibility, price, start window and delivery date in writing before you accept, and work starts only after the agreed inputs are in place. An enquiry creates no charge or booking.
Need to keep it working?
Discuss alt text for each new batch of images.
Ongoing work is separately scoped and quoted: no monitoring, response-time guarantee or automatic subscription is included in this job.
Mention the responsibility you need in your enquiry.
What you can check
This is a new service. We have not delivered this job for a client yet.
Other ways to get this done
- Write the alt text yourself for your best sellers first.
- Ask your theme or an app whether it can add alt text, and check what it writes.
Questions
Will it describe people in images?
No. Images of people are not in this job.
Does it help with accessibility law?
We cannot say. Alt text is one part, and your adviser decides what your store needs.
Will the file names change?
No. Only the alt text field changes.
Does a pass mean it will be right next month?
No. A pass describes items like the test sample on the day of the test. It is not a promise about future items, and it does not replace your own checking.
Send an enquiry
Send us
- How many images and what kind of products
- Whether images contain printed text or patterns
- Whether any alt text already exists
- No store login
Later, once you agree
- The image export through an agreed secure route
- Your reviewer's name
- A test store or import copy
- Your style rules for alt text, if you have them
You keep your store, your helpdesk and every login. We work on the files you send through a secure route agreed after you say yes, and hand back files and a report. We never ask for store or helpdesk logins, and nothing goes live until your named person applies it.
