Job store-search-no-results-fix-list · revised 12 October 2026

Fix the searches on your store that return nothing, with a tested list of changes

A list of your top no-result searches with the synonym, redirect or filter that fixes each, tested on a test store so that most now return a product your reviewer judges relevant.

You might be seeing

  • Customers search for a product you sell and get nothing
  • Your search report shows the same failed terms every week

No passwords, keys, card details or admin invites needed to start.

What usually happened

Customers search with their own words, which differ from your product titles. A search for "trainers" finds nothing when you sell "sneakers". Search matches the words in your product data and the synonym groups someone has set up, and it is hard to know which additions help without testing.

Who it’s for: Owner of a store whose search box often shows no results for things customers ask for.

Usually starts when: You exported search terms and found a long list of searches with zero results.

The result: You get a list of your top 30 no-result searches, each with the synonym, redirect or filter change that should fix it. On a test store, at least 28 of the 30 now return a product your reviewer judges relevant, and none of 30 searches that worked before has broken.

How we know it’s done

Agreed with you before work starts. Each check produces evidence you keep.

  1. On the test store, at least 28 of the 30 top no-result queries now return a product your reviewer judges relevant. These are the queries we wrote fixes for, so this is a count, not a promise about other searches.

Evidence: The 30 queries with results and your judgements.

  2. All 30 queries that worked before still return results after the changes, and the top result is unchanged or judged relevant by your reviewer; one broken fails the whole test.

    Evidence: The regression table.

  3. Every proposed change is one the search tool supports, with steps to apply it.

    Evidence: The apply steps.

  4. Queries that need a new product or page are listed apart from fixes.

    Evidence: The separate list.

Sign-off. You re-run the acceptance checks with the steps we hand over, read the results and sign off in writing. Payment follows sign-off.

If it fails. If an agreed check fails, you do not pay for this fixed scope. We hand over what we found and agree whether to stop or re-quote; no surprise work.

When it fits, and when we stop

It fits when

  • You can export search terms with result counts, without personal data
  • You can make a test store or copy of the search settings
  • A named reviewer judges whether a result is relevant
  • Your search tool allows synonyms, redirects or filters

We stop and tell you if

  • Search is a third-party service that cannot be copied or tested
  • The export holds personal data that cannot be removed
  • Most failed searches are for products you do not sell

What could go wrong

We change a test store or test account only. Nothing is switched on in your live store or helpdesk by us. Your named person applies the result and can switch it off again with the steps we hand over.

Scroll the table sideways to read it all.

RiskHow we handle it
A synonym fixes one search and breaks another. The regression test reruns 30 queries that worked before; one broken fails the test.
The tool cannot do what the list proposes. We check what the tool allows before proposing. Queries that need a new product are listed apart.
Query logs hold personal data.Only the query text and result count are sent.

A separate automated reviewer checks the work and the test results before hand-over. Your reviewer judges the results and your named person applies the changes. No human supervisor from us is included unless your agreement names one, and at launch the work is largely automated.

How we deliver

We arrange the work and independent review, then show you the result against the agreed checks. You keep authority over your systems.

  • Agree the search tool and the test store
  • Receive the query export and the 30 queries that work today
  • Group failed queries and propose one change for each
  • Apply the changes on the test store and rerun all queries
  • Your reviewer judges the 30 results; a separate automated reviewer checks the rest
  • Hand over the list, results and apply steps

This is a one-off job, not emergency cover or a subscription. We confirm eligibility, price, start window and delivery date in writing before you accept, and work starts only after the agreed inputs are in place. An enquiry creates no charge or booking.

Need to keep it working?

Discuss re-running the list every quarter.

Ongoing work is separately scoped and quoted: no monitoring, response-time guarantee or automatic subscription is included in this job.

Mention the responsibility you need in your enquiry.

What you can check

This is a new service. We have not delivered this job for a client yet.

Other ways to get this done

  • Add the most common synonyms in your search app by hand, starting with the top five failed queries.
  • Rename a few products so the words customers use appear in the title.

Questions

Do you change my live search?

No. We test on a copy and you apply the changes.

Will it raise my sales?

We cannot say. It makes searches that return nothing return something relevant.

What about searches for products I do not sell?

They are listed so you can decide whether to stock them.

Does a pass mean it will be right next month?

No. A pass describes items like the test sample on the day of the test. It is not a promise about future items, and it does not replace your own checking.

Send an enquiry

Send us

  • Which search tool you use
  • How many searches a week return nothing
  • A sample of 20 failed queries
  • No store login

Later, once you agree

  • The search export through an agreed secure route
  • A test store or copy of the search settings
  • The name of the reviewer
  • A list of 30 queries that worked before

You keep your store, your helpdesk and every login. We work on the files you send through a secure route agreed after you say yes, and hand back files and a report. We never ask for store or helpdesk logins, and nothing goes live until your named person applies it.

A public HTTPS link only, without login details, query strings or fragments. No code or logs.

Sending emails your enquiry and contact address to our team through our mail provider (Resend). It is not kept in a website database. Do not send passwords, keys, recovery links, confidential code or customer records. Your contact email is unverified; nothing is ordered, charged or reserved. Privacy notice.
