Job woo-variable-product-variations-not-selectable · revised 11 October 2026
Make a WooCommerce variable product sell every size and colour again
The agreed variable product shows each valid option combination on a store copy, with the right price and stock, and each one adds to the cart as the matching variation.
You might be seeing
- A size or colour that exists in stock cannot be selected
- Shoppers see "Sorry, no products matched your selection"
- A variation shows no price or is hidden in the shop
- The wrong variation is added to the cart
No passwords, keys, card details or admin invites needed to start.
What usually happened
A WooCommerce variable product needs its attributes saved as variation attributes, and each variation must carry matching values and a price. After an import or an attribute change, variation rows can point at a parent with different attribute names, hold values the parent no longer lists, rely on "Any" choices that overlap, or lack a price, so the product page cannot offer or add some combinations.
Who it’s for: Owner of a WooCommerce store whose variable product offers wrong, missing or unavailable choices after an import or an attribute edit.
Usually starts when: A product spreadsheet was imported, or attributes were changed, and shoppers now see missing options, "no products matched your selection" or the wrong price.
The result: On a copy of your store, the agreed variable product offers exactly the combinations you list, each priced and in stock as stated, and each one adds the matching variation to the cart.
Check whether this job fits
Five questions, about two minutes. Your answers stay on this page unless you choose to email them.
Checks you can run yourself
Read the Variations tab
In the product editor, open Product data, then Variations, and expand one that fails.
Look for: An empty price, an "Any" choice where a value is expected, or attribute values different from the Attributes tab.
Compare the parent and a variation in the import file
Open the file and find the variable row and one variation row.
Look for: A variation whose attribute name or value is not exactly listed on the parent row.
What you get
- A table of every agreed combination with the expected price and stock, and the result found before and after
- The corrected variations, or a corrected import file in WooCommerce format
- A short note naming the cause and how to avoid it in the next import
- Steps to apply the change to the live store and to undo it
Included
- One variable product, or one import group of variations that share a parent
- Finding why combinations are missing, duplicated or priced wrongly: attribute names, values, "Any" choices, missing prices or stock settings
- Correcting the variations in the store copy, or producing a corrected import file when the cause is in the spreadsheet
- Testing each agreed combination from product page to cart
Not included
- Redesigning the product page or swatches
- Changing the theme or adding a swatch plugin
- Variation behaviour that comes from a third-party extension you must licence
- Correcting orders already placed
- Search engine, feed or marketplace listings for the product
How we know it’s done
Agreed with you before work starts. Each check produces evidence you keep.
Every agreed combination can be selected on the staging product page and adds exactly one matching variation to the cart
Evidence: A table of combinations with cart screenshots or variation IDs
Each agreed combination shows the expected price, and combinations you said should not exist cannot be selected
Evidence: Price column and a screenshot of the unavailable combination message
Stock behaves as agreed for one in-stock and one out-of-stock combination
Evidence: Screenshots of both product states
A second, unrelated variable product still works with the same steps
Evidence: Cart screenshot for that product
Sign-off. You review the combination table and the staging test result and sign off before payment. Applying the change to the live store is a separate step your site holder takes.
If it fails. If the checks do not pass, you do not pay, and we hand over what we found so anyone can continue.
When it fits, and when we stop
It fits when
- You can name one variable product and list the combinations that should be sold
- A staging or copy store exists, or your host can make one
- The product page and cart still load, so the fault is in variations rather than a site error
- An authorised person can apply the fix to the live store
We stop and tell you if
- A third-party variation or bundle plugin that we cannot test on the copy owns the behaviour
- More than about 200 variations on one product, which is quoted as a larger job
- The product page itself triggers a critical error
- Nobody can say which combinations should exist and at what price
What could go wrong
Variation changes are listed in the handover with their previous values, so your site holder can put them back or restore the backup taken before applying them. We do not change the live store.
Scroll the table sideways to read it all.
| Risk | How we handle it |
|---|---|
| Re-saving attributes after variations exist can remove variations | We work on the staging copy first, note each variation before editing and keep the backup you take before applying live. |
| Stock or price changes reach customers from the copy | Staging runs with payments in test mode, customer emails off and no live feeds connected. |
| An "Any" choice hides a duplicate that wins by list order | We list the order WooCommerce matches variations in and prefer explicit values on every variation. |
A second reviewer checks the combination table against what you asked for, that unrelated products are unchanged and that your site holder can apply and reverse the change.
How we deliver
We arrange the work and independent review, then show you the result against the agreed checks. You keep authority over your systems.
- Confirm the staging copy matches live versions, with payments in test mode and customer email off
- Record each failing combination and the page, cart and price result
- Compare attributes, variation values, "Any" choices, prices and stock settings with the combination table
- Correct the variations on staging, or correct the import file and re-import there
- Re-run every agreed combination from product page to cart, and the unaffected products next to it
- Independent review, then hand over the change, evidence and steps to undo; your site holder applies it live
This is a one-off job, not emergency cover or a subscription. We confirm eligibility, the total price, a start window and a delivery date before you accept. Work starts only after agreed inputs, secure access, any licences and necessary permissions are in place. Platform, app and supplier charges are excluded unless the written quote includes them. No charge or booking is created by an enquiry.
Need to keep it working?
Discuss a test-import checklist for variable products before future imports as a separate agreement.
Ongoing work is separately scoped and quoted: no monitoring, response-time guarantee or automatic subscription is included in this job.
Explore an ongoing engineering lane, or mention the responsibility you need in your enquiry.
What you can check
This is a new service. We have not delivered this job for a client yet.
Other ways to get this done
- If the product was imported, re-importing a corrected file with "Update existing products" on a copy may fix it. Check one product before doing it live.
- If a variation plugin generated the options, its vendor may support the fix while your licence is active.
Questions
Do you need my live admin login?
No. We work on a staging copy with a staging login. Your site holder applies the result to live.
What if several products have the same fault?
This job covers one product or one import group with a shared parent. Several unrelated products are quoted together as a larger scope.
Will you change my theme or swatches?
No. We fix the data and settings behind the choices, not the design of the selector.
Send an enquiry
Send us
- A link to the product page, and the combinations that fail
- The list of attributes and values the product should offer
- Whether the products came from an import, a plugin or manual entry
- WooCommerce and theme versions, if you know them
- The expected price and stock rule for each combination or group
Later, once you agree
- A staging copy shared the way you choose, with a staging admin login rather than your live one
- The import file that created the products, with customer data removed
- A named person who confirms the expected combinations, prices and stock
- A company-controlled secure handoff agreed before access: no live passwords, keys, private code or customer records by ordinary email.
You keep the live store, hosting account, payment account and admin logins. We work on a staging copy with payments in test mode, and your site holder applies the fix to the live store.
