Job support-tickets-to-engineering-bug-reports-with-repro · revised 12 October 2026
Turn support tickets into engineering bug reports with steps, severity and duplicates
A ticket becomes an engineering issue with steps, expected versus actual, environment, a log request if missing, severity, affected-ticket count and a duplicate link.
You might be seeing
- Engineers ask for steps, environment and logs on every ticket
- The same bug is reported three times
- Nobody knows how many customers a bug affects
No passwords, keys, card details or admin invites needed to start.
What usually happened
A support ticket describes what the customer felt, not what an engineer needs. Without steps, expected versus actual and environment, the engineer asks again and the bug waits.
Who it’s for: Support or engineering lead whose engineers receive "it's broken" forwards with nothing to reproduce.
Usually starts when: Engineers ask support for the same missing details on every bug ticket, and duplicates reach three people.
The result: A ticket becomes an engineering issue draft with steps, expected versus actual, environment, a log request if one is missing, a severity, the count of affected tickets and a link to a likely duplicate. Nothing posts to your tracker until a person approves.

Not included
- Posting to your tracker without approval
- Tracker write access for any model by default

How we know it’s done
Agreed with you before work starts. Each check produces evidence you keep.
Your engineer rates 30 drafts against the checklist (steps, expected, actual, environment, severity), and at least 24 are complete first time, meaning each field is filled from the ticket or states a question to support. Ten of the 30 are held back until the final run and their results are reported separately. The mixed development and held-back score is not a measured unseen-ticket pass rate.
Evidence: The rating sheet and the held-back marker.
Every missing item appears as a stated question to support, and no draft invents a step, version or log line.
Evidence: The question list and the invented-fact count (zero required).
On 10 labelled duplicate pairs and at least 10 non-duplicate pairs chosen by your engineer and unseen by us until the final run, the matching finds at least 8 of the 10 duplicate pairs and links no non-duplicate pair; the affected-ticket count on each draft matches your labels. No link merges or closes anything. One non-duplicate linked as a duplicate fails the whole test.
Evidence: The duplicate table against your labels.
No draft contains a key, token or password-like string.
Evidence: A scan of all drafts.
Sign-off. Your engineer reads the ratings and you sign off in writing. Payment follows sign-off.
If it fails. If fewer than 24 drafts are complete after one rewrite of the rules, we retest on 10 new tickets chosen by your engineer, hand over the results and you decide whether to stop or re-quote.
When it fits, and when we stop
It fits when
- A tracker (GitHub, Linear or Jira) and a sandbox project we can draft into or a file we hand you
- Redacted tickets with secrets and personal data removed
- An engineer who rates the drafts
We stop and tell you if
- Tickets contain secrets or regulated data that cannot be removed
- You want issues posted without approval
- No engineer can rate the drafts
What could go wrong
Drafts are files or sandbox issues. Nothing is posted to your real tracker, so there is nothing to undo.
Scroll the table sideways to read it all.
| Risk | How we handle it |
|---|---|
| A ticket carries instructions that steer the draft | Ticket text is untrusted, and the drafter has no tracker write access. |
| A secret in a ticket reaches an issue | Secrets are removed before sharing, and drafts are scanned for key-like strings before hand-over. |
| A severity is invented | Severity follows your written scale, and a draft without enough facts says so and asks. |
| A wrong duplicate link closes a real bug | Duplicate links are suggestions for a person and never merge or close anything. |
A separate automated reviewer checks each draft against the checklist and the duplicate matches before hand-over, and your engineer on your side marks the sample and decides what goes live. No human supervisor is included unless your agreement names one. At launch the work is largely automated, and we say so.
How we deliver
We arrange the work and independent review, then show you the result against the agreed checks. You keep authority over your systems.
- Agree the template, severity scale and checklist with your engineers
- Build the rules that fill the template from ticket text
- Turn each missing item into a stated question to support
- Run 30 redacted tickets; your engineer rates each draft
- Independent automated review of drafts and duplicate matches
- Hand over the template and rules; nothing posts without approval
This is a one-off job, not emergency cover or a subscription. We confirm eligibility, the total price, a start window and a delivery date before you accept. Work starts only after agreed inputs, secure access and any needed permissions are in place. Model usage for our build and tests is included in the price; charges on your own platform account, including per-conversation fees after go-live, are yours. An enquiry creates no charge or booking.
Need to keep it working?
Discuss handing well-formed issues to the engineering lane.
Ongoing work is separately scoped and quoted: no monitoring, response-time guarantee or automatic subscription is included in this job.
Explore an ongoing managed lane, or mention the responsibility you need in your enquiry.
What you can check
This is a new service. We have not delivered this job for a client yet.
Other ways to get this done
- A one-page bug-report form for support to fill in, with steps, expected, actual and environment, fixes most of the gap for free.
Questions
Does it post to my tracker?
No. A person approves each issue.
Does it contact the customer for missing details?
No. It lists questions for support to ask.
Will it fix the bugs?
No. After a good issue exists, the engineering jobs can take it.
Send an enquiry
Send us
- Your help desk and tracker
- The fields engineers always ask for
- Roughly how many bug tickets arrive each week
- No customer data, logins or keys in the first enquiry
Later, once you agree
- A redacted export of about 80 bug tickets; 10 of the 30 test tickets are chosen by your engineer and unseen by us until the final run, and 10 more tickets are kept for any retest
- A sandbox tracker project, or none if you want files
- 10 labelled duplicate pairs and at least 10 non-duplicate pairs, chosen by your engineer and unseen by us until the final run
- A secure route agreed before any ticket text is shared
You keep the help desk, the tracker and every login. We work from a redacted export and a sandbox project, give drafts as files or sandbox issues and never post to your real tracker.
