Builder site fault map: which check to do first when Wix, Squarespace or Webflow misbehaves

An ordered path from the fault you can see to the check that finds it: domain, page, form, speed, old links and private data, with the bounded job and guide that fits each step.

1. Can visitors reach the site at your own address, securely?

Open your address, with and without www, in a private window from a phone on mobile data. If it shows a warning, an error or another site, the domain connection or certificate is the first problem, and nothing else is worth testing until it is fixed. Read the builder's domain panel and compare its records with your DNS host's.

  • Domain and certificate causes: the domain certificate guide.
  • Bounded job: connect the domain and issue its certificate.
  • Do not change email records while fixing it.

2. Does the page load and work?

If the address is fine but a page looks broken, list every snippet and widget on it and switch them off one at a time, as Wix describes, testing after each. Record the browser console errors before and after. This finds the snippet or placement that breaks the page, or the second copy of a tag that counts twice.

  • Placement and limits: the embed placement guide.
  • Double counting: the tracking tag guide.
  • Bounded job: fix one snippet or widget.

3. Does the form deliver?

Submit one labelled test on the published page and look in three places: the builder's stored submissions, the notification inbox and the spam folder. Stored but not emailed means notification settings or the mailbox; not stored means the form is not submitting. Each builder has its own guide because the settings differ.

  • Webflow, Squarespace and Wix each have a form guide.
  • Bounded job: make one form deliver every submission.
  • Monthly version: the forms and embeds check.

4. Is it slow?

Measure the page's weight and sort its files by size before changing anything. A few images, fonts, videos and third-party scripts usually make up most of it. Change one cause at a time and measure the same way again.

  • What the builder lets you change: the page weight guide.
  • Bounded job: bring one page within a weight and speed budget.

5. Are old links broken after a relaunch?

Open ten old addresses from search results and old emails in a private window. Errors or wrong landing pages mean the redirect map is missing or incomplete. The builder's redirect tool has its own limits, which the redirect guide lists.

  • Tool limits and testing: the redirect guide.
  • Bounded job: redirect up to 60 old addresses and keep titles.

6. Is private content really private?

On a Bubble app, test with two dummy accounts and a logged-out visit: hiding a field on a page is not protection, a privacy rule on the data type is. On Wix or Squarespace, open each protected address while logged out. This check is last because it matters most after the site works.

  • Bubble data: the privacy rules guide.
  • Bounded job: fix one Bubble privacy rule.

Sources and limits

  • Squarespace: troubleshooting form issues Checked 2026-10-11.
    • Squarespace's troubleshooting tip is to start by removing the form block, adding it again and reconnecting storage, which it says resolves most issues; for the 'X of Y storage services' error it says to disconnect and reconnect each storage option first and remove and re-add the block if that fails.
  • Wix: embedding custom code on your site Checked 2026-10-11.
    • To find a problematic snippet, turn each snippet off one at a time and test after each change.
  • Bubble manual: protecting data with privacy rules Checked 2026-10-11.
    • Privacy rules are enforced on the server so blocked data is not sent to the browser.
