Wix sites: what the builder handles, where its documented limits are and which bounded jobs fit

Wix hosts the site, forms, store and members features. This page sets out what that covers, the documented limits that catch owners out, and the bounded repairs and builds that fit.

What Wix handles for you

Wix is a hosted builder with its own editors. The same account holds the pages, a CMS with collections, forms whose notifications run through Automations, a store, a Members Area with roles and pricing plans, a URL Redirect Manager, and Custom Code in settings. The domain can be bought from Wix or connected from elsewhere by pointing or by nameservers.

Wix manages hosting and the certificate. Its form emails are built from automations, which is why the recipient lives outside the form.

  • Forms notify through an automation.
  • Custom Code and the HTML embed element are separate routes.
  • Redirects are managed in the URL Redirect Manager.

Documented limits that catch owners out

A Wix site has to run on Wix's infrastructure and cannot be exported and hosted elsewhere, and Wix states that blog posts cannot currently be exported to other platforms. Google Analytics, Tag Manager and the Facebook and TikTok pixels do not work through Custom Code and must use marketing integrations, and Wix does not support third-party snippet problems.

The HTML embed element is an iFrame: content must use https, is not responsive on its own and can be cropped by fixed pixel sizes. Changing your account email does not update existing form automations. A CSV redirect import takes up to 500 redirects per file.

  • Plan any move as a rebuild.
  • Use the marketing integrations for analytics and pixels.
  • Re-edit each form automation after any email change.

Jobs that fit a bounded fix

The faults that most often fit a bounded job are a form notification that does not arrive, an embed or tag that breaks a page, a domain stuck on pending, a slow landing page, a redirect map after a relaunch, a CMS CSV import with field mapping, setting up a small store with a test order, and setting up a members-only area using Wix's own tools. Moving a site off Wix is a larger project because there is no full export.

Each is offered as a fixed-scope job with an acceptance test, priced as an untested proposal and paid only after sign-off.

  • Send the page address and a short description first, never logins.
  • Expect a written scope and test before any access is asked for.
  • Your account holder publishes every change.

Access and what stays yours

You keep the Wix account, the plan, the domain and all customer data. Access is agreed with you in writing before any work starts, and no work starts until it is; any access we use is through a company-controlled account, never a personal login. Wix's roles differ. The Website Manager role can manage, edit and publish the site but not billing; the Website Designer role can edit the site and manage settings and apps but cannot reach the Inbox, contacts or other sensitive information, so form-notification jobs cannot use it; the Store Manager role manages store products, orders, shipping and tax; and the Domain Manager role can connect and manage domains. Wix's help pages do not say which role opens Custom Code, the URL Redirect Manager or a CMS import, so we confirm the exact role in your dashboard before quoting. Wix gives a site one free collaborator seat by default (five when the site is linked to a Wix Studio account) and you cannot invite more until you upgrade. We name the role and any seat charge in the quote before you invite anyone. You can remove our access at any time. No passwords or payment details go by ordinary email.
